Once upon a time I was old enough that I should have been reading but I wasn't -- then I decided I didn't want my friends to think that I was not smart, so I became determined to learn.

I started paying attention to my teachers and practicing my reading after school, then guess what happened? I began to read! I was amazed that it did not take as long as I thought it would. All I had to do was pay attention, listen, practice and believe that I could, and I did, read! It is just like baseball. I am a terrific pitcher, but I had to practice to become a good one.

I do many things that require practice, like hitting the ball. I can send it flying so high, well you should come and see it go. Come to our playground on Castle Land the next time you are dreaming then you can join our team.  Just remember you have to go to bed on time to make your flight on the back of one of the Chelseas.

I love baseball, don’t you?

Riot, the rat

I am so glad that I decided to help Rudy (Riot) the rat, learn how to read, and spell too. Everyday, before we start our baseball games at the park, I listen to him practice reading; then we review our spelling words together. It did not take him long at all, just some patience on my part. Rudy has become a great speller. Now he spells better than I do, imagine that. Am I jealous? No!

My helping Rudy resulted in both our teams putting together a study group after school. Now both teams study first, then we play the day's baseball game. I know that Rudy feels good now that he is doing well in school. Funny all the other students were surprised to find out that Rudy was just as smart as they are.

Honey, the safety bee

I have only one thing to add, if you are going to come to Castle Land, flying on the back of one of the Chelseas, make sure you put on your
star safety belt!  Remember Bee-a-Buckler!
