Chelsea’s Beacon is just one of three elements of our Quality Effort Award Program.
The Chelsea Foundation, a 501(c)(3), designed the program to capture children's interest in knowledge, encourage them to want to know more, and to see their teachers as their heroes.
Broaden Chelsea's Flight...
Broaden a Student's Mind!
Chelsea’s Beacon is an online magazine filled with appropriate material for students in grades first through sixth. It offers many beneficial methods, formats and outlets that promote the written word, taking literacy across curriculum. We use only writings submitted through a national volunteer effort of skilled professional and amateur writers.
The Student's Beat is a day planner designed for each student to use as a day-to-day journal throughout the school year. The journal helps students to set realistic goals as teachers guide them in their efforts to achieve those goals. The journal gives teachers a practical, as well as a lively and a fun method to help children take greater control over their own lives inside and outside the classroom.
The Quality Effort Award recognizes the effort that students put into their schoolwork throughout the year. Teachers decide which students receive this honor and award the children themselves. The award does not equate with grades, but only the best that each student can be. Students who are not comprehending material or reading on mark can still receive awards for the quality of the effort that they are putting into their classwork.
It is important to know that students may submit their writings, photos, and artwork to be published in Chelsea’s Beacon. Science and other projects completed by an entire class can also be submitted to be shared with other students in other schools. Contributions for Chelsea’s Beacon are accepted from all ages!
