This is the story about Race Car Driver Spencer and the Amazing Captain Stinky.
Spencer was not really a race car driver. His Mom always told him he could be anything he wanted to be and today he wanted to be a race car driver.
Spencer lived in the town called Goatsmith, and his house was surrounded by a wide expanse of woods.
Every morning Spencer, oh excuse me, Race Car Driver Spencer, would hurry through the breakfast his Mom had made him and hurry outside to play. Once outside he would yell, "DWEEZLEDUB!" very loudly. Dweezledub was a secret code that would bring his friend Stinky running.
Stinky was a skunk, but not an ordinary skunk. He did not smell like most skunks do. He did have a slight aroma, but not from his tail like other skunks. His odor was from his feet. To hide his smell, Stinky wore a special pair of blue socks. When circumstances called for it, Stinky would take the left sock off his paw and place it on his tail. Once the sock was on his tail; a loud hum would start humming, a little whirl would start whirling, and a huge flurry of action would start actioning. (I do know that actioning is not a real word.) Stinky would then disappear into a dense cloud of fog and reappear a few seconds later as Captain Stinky, master of all stinks and protector to...well.......to all those out of nose range. Captain Stinky wore a green, tie-dyed T-shirt, gray underwear, and of course, the blue sock on his tail.
Stinky and Spencer looked around the yard to find the necessary items to build their race car. Spencer got his old, red and white tricycle out of the garage. He found an empty box that had Mom's new dishwasher had come in. "Perfect," Spencer said. He and Stinky placed the box around the tricycle and used some packing tape to attach it.

Next, they used some crayons and began coloring....I mean painting....their car.
Stinky drew a funny face on the roof, and Spencer drew some purple racing stripes on the side.
"That will make us go faster," Spencer declared, "Ready?" he asked Stinky.
"Ready...well, not quite ready; who are you going to race today?" Stinky asked.
"Oh!" Race car driver Spencer thought a moment. "I am not quite sure, maybe some of our friends would like to race."
Stinky agreed and he took his blue sock off his paw and placed it on his tail. With the sock in place, a loud hum started humming, a little whirl started whirling, a huge flurry of action started actioning, and Stinky disappeared into a dense fog. He reappeared a moment later as the Amazing Captain Stinky, master of all stinks and protector to ......well....to all those out of nose range.
Spencer, I mean race car driver Spencer, grabbed his clothes pin as soon as the hum started humming. He had smelled the horrible odor once before and once was enough for him. The rest of the woodland animals lined up at the edge of the woods putting on their clothespins and then came to see what was going on.
"My driver and I are holding a race would anyone want to join in?" Captain Stinky announced.
There was a low rumble when all the animals started talking among themselves.
Deeter, the old white-haired rabbit used to be a champion runner in his youth. He used this opportunity to launch into a story, "In my day, I used to run five miles. No two legged creature could have ever....." He talked endlessly.
Connie, a long-leged cricket, thought that it might be a great deal of fun. However, she was sure she wouldn't win.
Milton, the red and orange box turtle, thought that he would like to race. However, when he spoke up, Jumper, the high jumping frog, laughed at him.
"Hey! Everyone may race," Race car driver Spencer said.
Once everyone decided whether or not to race, all the racers lined up in front of the picnic table.
"Wait!" yelled Captain Stinky. "You run 3 laps around the picnic table. The first one to run 3 laps wins. Mr. Highfly, the gray and black pigeon, will raise the flag to signal the last lap."
Once all the racers were in place, the crowd began the count down. Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one....GO!
Mr. Woohoo, the white barn owl commented on the race.
"Spencer is in the lead as they round the first turn. Connie cricket is in second place, Gormon groundhog is in third place. Milton turtle has just left the starting line."
The crowd was cheering.
Mr. Woohoo continued "Gormon groundhog has disappeared from the race. There is just a hole where he was last seen. Milton turtle is stuck on the picnic table leg. He tried to cut the turn too sharply."
